The Best Part? Leaving
Too long since my last post! I have started teaching two writing classes at TCC South, as well as started my last class until I write my thesis! YEAH! This weekend was Paul McCormack's 70th birthday, so we drove to Houston on Saturday morning, early. Like 6:30 a.m. early. We thought it might be a bad trip, as our car had trouble again before we left. We decided to soldier on, and that was a good thing! I had to finish reading a book for my class, Gender Trouble by Judith Butler. (Very thought provoking read on the history and implications of gender). So, when we got there, Molly slept at a hotel while I finished the text and Jack and Mike played at the McCormack's. IT was my second time to stay in a hotel while we were down there. The first time was such a horrible experience, it is literally unbloggable. This time, it worked out GREAT! I had two hours while Molly slept, then we went and celebrated Paul with a birthday cake (molly licked the icing before we finished Happy Birthday). The, we drove to El Gallo, the local Mexican restaurant that Mike and his family have spent many happy meals at. Then, it was off to bed. On Sunday morning, Mike took the kids to church cause I have a three page response paper due for my class tomorrow. I have to admit, I loved doing it. I am really enjoying Feminist Theory. Anyway, on the way to pick me up, Mike asked the kids what they liked best about old school C of C church, and Molly said the singing, I guess. Jack? He said he liked LEAVING the best! That is hilarious. It makes me laugh so hard still to think of it. The best part of the trip for me was not leaving. I had a blast in Houston. The best part was seeing Mike's grandfather, who is 92. I could tell he loved Jack and Molly: he snuggled up next to them many times. It really was worth the whole 10 hour round trip. And for me, I got quiet time in a hotel to research and think about English Theory, which I love. Mike got to see his family. And, another great thing about the trip was Myles and Lisa were there. Lisa completes the family: she has made it so fun every visit. It is wonderful to have someone to joke about the family with. At the beginning of the meal, she requested under her breath a very strong margarita. That sounded like a joke I would make. She is so fun to be with. Truthfully, I LOVE my sisters in law. I am so lucky to have two great, trendy, kind girls who complete both our families.
Anyway, sorry it has been so long. It has taken me a few weeks to get my footing in my classes, but I am loving teaching, too, two nights a week. I really believe God has blessed me with this job at TCC to reflect his love and to help these students. Now, off to bed for my nightly snuggles with Jack and Molly Ann.

great blog & about time!
Ditto to Mrs. Bain!
I am so glad you had such a wonderful and safe trip. I love stories involving your kids and see so much of you in them.
You ARE very blessed with family and it sounds like some neat SILS, I feel the same about mine- so neat to finally have sisters!
I would have paid money to see Molly get to the cake before Paul got to it! I love that little stink-pot!
